Life In Kuala Lumpur & Selangor
In the year of 2011, it was a year for me to experience what a real world is while I was waiting for my STPM results to be qualified to get into any of the local university.
Well, I had 8 months holidays during that period, therefore I decided to find some part time job to get some working experience and the most important was to earn some extra income. While I was searching for vacancies, I got an offer from my aunt and her friend to work with them in this period of time but it was located at Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Both of them are teaching creativity arts and have own centre. My aunt's centre is located at the border of Kuala Lumpur whereas her friend's centre is at Subang, Selangor.
It took a few days for me to consider about the offers from both of them and whether to accept the challenge to step out from my house for 8 months even though I did not excel in arts. After a few days, I finally had the answer that I should challenge myself and this is an opportunity for me to step outside as well as stay independently to train myself, as it will also benefits me in the future because I have a plan to work overseas after graduating from my degree.
I stayed with my aunt and her family when I was in Kuala Lumpur. There, I worked for two centres, 7 days a week. I worked for Scribble Art Centre which belongs to my aunt for 4 days in a week and the rest was with my aunt's friend - Aunty Jackie who owns Bilden Creative Learning Centre.
Enjoyable Moment With All The Kids At Scribble Arts Center, Kuala Lumpur
In Scribble Art Centre, my job scope were observing the kids in the range of 4 years old to 12 years old, taking pictures, recording what was done by the kids, doing some documentations and I was not involved in teaching.
The children there were very smart and some are even very creative in drawing but there is also a few that were naughty.
The process of the teaching was telling them some story at the beginning and then guiding them in the drawing. This way, the children will get some idea from the story and some of them will draw anything they get from their imagination. Some children will tell you what they drew and that was even a storyline in their drawing. From their drawing, you can tell what the feelings of the children are. Sometimes, we can read their mind through drawing. Moreover, we also organized outing activities for the children and let them have a chance to get closer with the nature.
I really enjoyed myself with those kids in the centre because they were very cute, playful and I could communicate with them well.
Unforgettable Experienced At Bilden Creative Learning Centre, Selangor
The job scope for this was different with the first one. My responsibility here was to teach as well as doing some documentation and preparing the lessons before class begin.
When I was working in Bilden Creative Learning Centre, I had no idea about what creativity arts is and worried that I will not be able to teach the students. But there is no other choice for me since I had accepted the job. After that, I had been informed that I will be teaching the students are from advanced level which are from form 3 to form 5. Despite that, the only way for me is to accept the challenge.
It was a sunday class, so I will have 2 days for the preparation and to try for the experiment. For example, paper craft. We can use paper to create a lot of things based on self creativity. Furthermore, we can even use paper in costume design. At the end, I did it and was able to over the challenge.
Below are the example :
Memorable Farewell
Time Flies and it comes to the end of my journey in KL and Selangor. I felt sad and happy at the same time. The reason why I felt Sad is because I have to leave all the adorable and clever kids as well as my colleagues while feeling happy because I was able to get into local university and come to the next stage in my life.
Before I went back to my hometown - Penang, my colleagues organized a farewell dinner for me, we had dinner, shared stories, laughed together and it was a really memorable one.
Besides that, my friends who are studying in Kuala Lumpur also organized a farewell for me. We gathered, we played, we took picture and had fun. What a enjoyable night for all of us.
As a conclusion, I learned a lot of things in that 8 months such as the way to teach the students patiently, learnt a lot of creative things, how to read children's mind through drawing and I also have the chance to cook in KL because usually my parents do not allow me to cook at home, so it improves my cooking skill as well.
